information about rental housing in Dawson City
Baby steps towards KDO 2!
There’s snow on the ground and a chill in the air, but with the help of our trusty local contractors and the City of Dawson we are charging ahead with construction of our next 8-plex.
Supporting a year-round economy is important to KDO as a community economic development focused organization, so we are pleased to once again be shopping and hiring local as much as possible, and to be constructing through the winter months.
Thanks to Gammie Trucking for their stellar work completing our excavation and backfill so quickly:
Here’s a fun shot of the Oro Enterprises construction crew who were out building forms for the concrete footings:
And thanks to Grenon Enterprises and City of Dawson for taking care of the water and sewer installation pretty much ‘just in the nick of time’ in terms of weather:

Coming soon to downtown Dawson… KDO 8-plex TWO!
KDO is thrilled to announce the commencement of our second affordable housing complex in Dawson City!

A modification of our 6th& King apartments design, this new building will again offer 8 compact and energy-efficient apartments. Different design elements were introduced to adapt the complex to the 3rd avenue property on a commercial street flanked by historic sites on either side.

Operating on a not-for-profit model, our aim is to provide comfortable, stable, affordable housing to help alleviate the shortage our community continues to face.
KDO would like to express our thanks for the support of the City of Dawson through their Development Incentive Policy, to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation for their assistance in completing the design and engineering, and to Yukon Housing Corporation for their Affordable Housing and Municipal Matching funding.
Oro Enterprises was the successful proponent following our construction RFP, and they are looking to begin construction as soon as the site is backfilled and compacted. We will get the building tight to weather as soon as possible, and then interior construction will continue over the winter, aiming for final exterior work and completion by the end of summer 2019.
Mahsi Cho, everyone! This stuff is not easy… we could not do this without you. Now… let’s get to work!

Apartments Construction Update
Thank you to our funders!
Things are really bustling over at the construction site. Now that the Yukon territorial election is over and done, Klondike Development Organization can (and certainly wishes to) gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the partners who have made this project possible. Thank you for recognizing the need for rental housing in our community, for sharing in our vision, and for saying ‘yes’!

We would also like to thank Brad Whitelaw of the Triple J Hotel for his flexibility, and community-minded approach to working with us to purchase the land from him. Without a place to build, construction could not have begun.
Work is going really well. The electricians are nearly done, plumbing is underway and well… here is a sneak peek at the interior. Oro Enterprise’s design offers comfy, compact spaces with ample windows to provide light and views. We’ll post more photos as things evolve.
