KDO is getting set to celebrate completion of the new apartments on 3rd avenue, May 31st!
Tenants will be moving into the building on June 1 and June 15, 2019.
It looks peaceful on the outside… but on the inside the rooms are all framed, plumbing is roughed in, electrical is almost done, and we’re putting up drywall.
KDO is excited to be contributing to the revitalization of this section of third avenue. We’re hopeful that the vacant buildings along here will find new life and opportunity soon!
There’s snow on the ground and a chill in the air, but with the help of our trusty local contractors and the City of Dawson we are charging ahead with construction of our next 8-plex.
Supporting a year-round economy is important to KDO as a community economic development focused organization, so we are pleased to once again be shopping and hiring local as much as possible, and to be constructing through the winter months.
Thanks to Gammie Trucking for their stellar work completing our excavation and backfill so quickly:
Here’s a fun shot of the Oro Enterprises construction crew who were out building forms for the concrete footings:
And thanks to Grenon Enterprises and City of Dawson for taking care of the water and sewer installation pretty much ‘just in the nick of time’ in terms of weather:

Governments of Yukon and Canada joint press release:
KDO is thrilled to announce the commencement of our second affordable housing complex in Dawson City!
A modification of our 6th& King apartments design, this new building will again offer 8 compact and energy-efficient apartments. Different design elements were introduced to adapt the complex to the 3rd avenue property on a commercial street flanked by historic sites on either side.
Operating on a not-for-profit model, our aim is to provide comfortable, stable, affordable housing to help alleviate the shortage our community continues to face.
KDO would like to express our thanks for the support of the City of Dawson through their Development Incentive Policy, to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation for their assistance in completing the design and engineering, and to Yukon Housing Corporation for their Affordable Housing and Municipal Matching funding.
Oro Enterprises was the successful proponent following our construction RFP, and they are looking to begin construction as soon as the site is backfilled and compacted. We will get the building tight to weather as soon as possible, and then interior construction will continue over the winter, aiming for final exterior work and completion by the end of summer 2019.
Mahsi Cho, everyone! This stuff is not easy… we could not do this without you. Now… let’s get to work!
